Purpose of the Course

The Course, organized by the INFN Section of Padova with the support of the INFN National Laboratory of Legnaro, has the purpose of promoting the formation and to give state-of-the-art knowledge to PhD students, young researchers and engineers, operating in High Energy Physics, Astrophysics, Space Science and Technologies at Universities, Research Institutes and Industries, who are interested to get a deeper knowledge concerning:

-radiation effects on detectors, electronic devices, components and systems for application in the previous fields;

-technological solutions to improve the radiation hardness of detectors, electronic devices, components and systems.

The Course will be located at the INFN National Laboratory of Legnaro (Padova, Italy), April 4-8, 2005 .

Organization of the Course

The duration of the Course is 5 consecutive days. The Course will be focused on the following issues:

1st day. Physics of Radiation. Radiation environments in Space and High Energy Physics experiments;

2nd day. Main characteristics and radiation effects on semiconductor detectors, CCD and solar cells;

3rd day. Radiation effects on MOSFETs and BJTs. Single Event Effects on electronic devices and systems;

4thday. Techniques for improving the radiation hardness of electronic devices and components. Case studies with Italian Aerospace Industries.

5th day. Space Weather. Radiation sources for qualification by ground tests.

Every day consists of 8 hours of lessons (4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon) divided in modules of 1-2 hours . The lessons are performed by University Professors and Scientists/Technicians from Research Institutes, Italian and European Industries.

The official language of the Course is Italian, some lessons could be in English.
